SX Snaps
The snap envied around the world.
The Universal "SX" 2-prong attached ring spring snap
fastener system is one of the most sought after snap fasteners on the
market. Developed by Universal, the "SX" snap incorporates a 2-prong
fastener similar to the one used in the assembly of UFI's buttons and
burrs. The proven design was a natural for modification and application
to the snap fastener line.
"SX" snap fasteners are available in two sizes and
made from either brass or steel. Snap tops can be made in 20, 24, or
27 ligne sizes with either nylon or metal caps.
The Universal Advantage
The "SX" system requires
no pre-punching before attachment and ensures a secure attachment on
the widest range of fabrics and garment styles. Components will not
rotate or button hole through properly assembled applications. As an
added feature, because of the fastener style and attachment process,
the assembled components offer a near water tight attachment on specific
applications.
In addition, with a basic hand tool the "SX" snap
system can be removed after attachment, without damaging most knit and
woven fabrics. After removal, a new "SX" fastener can be reapplied in
the same or another location, eliminating garment seconds due to misplaced
snap fasteners.
Typical Types of Applications
The "SX" snap
is the right choice for products requiring a medium to heavy tension
snap fastener. Typical applications are light, medium and heavy woven
fabrics and materials; knits are an option with correct construction
and stabilization.
Examples include: outerwear, sportswear, foul weather
garments, fireman's apparel, work clothing, and a variety of other apparel
and accessory applications. Special applications are on woven webbing
and strapping materials, leather, seating material, footwear, canvas,
and personal protective equipment.

Do not set attachment on seams |
Too Thick |
|
|
Correct: The fastener should be snug against
the garment and parallel with the fabric foundation and it's fastening
component |
Loose: The product is loose on the application
and can be easily pulled off the garment. This can be caused by
several conditions: machine set-up, incorrect application pressure,
compatibility of the fastener system with application. |
Uneven: The two halves of the fastener
component are not parallel to each other, making the attachment
weak and compromised. This is a result of inconsistent foundation
thickness, variations of the garment construction or the attaching
equipment. |
Seams: If the fastener is attached on
a stitched seam, it may cut the thread thus compromising the integrity
of the seam. |
Thick Applications: Excess foundation
thickness can cause weak attachments resulting in low pull off values.
Thin applications can also have the same affect. |
Always consult your UFI representative or contact
UFI's field technical service (FTC Dept.) for recommendations regarding
product applications and preferred equipment. |
