BUTTONS
How the world buttons up
Whether you require a high fashion button design or
a utilitarian, hard working, long lasting button, it's all one and the
same with UFI. We have the types and styles that fit all your requirements.
Based on your application demands, Universal has just
the button you need. UFI manufactures three basic types of buttons:
Metal Collet, Swivel Collet, and Nylon Collet. One of these designs
will offer the advantages to make it the right choice for your fastener
needs.
As part of the UFI basic button line, all types are
offered in variations ranging in sizes of 22, 24, and 27 ligne. Combinations
of nylon, steel, stainless steel, brass, and other alloys can be assembled
to create the button you want and performance you need.
The Universal Advantage
Metal Collet tack buttons can be attached with
either a 2-prong tack or a single prong tack. The Metal Collet button
-- attached with a 2-prong fastener offers secure attachments -- prevents
button rotation, and avoids button "pull through." Another special feature
is its ability to be applied to a wide range of fabrics and foundation
thicknesses with a high level of security. The 2-prong fastener can
be removed and reapplied with minimal fabric damage. Other types of
buttons can not offer such a wide range of application variations with
the same level of security.
- Metal Collet buttons attached with a single
prong tack offer a high pull through strength at a slightly reduced
cost over 2-prong tack attached buttons.
- Swivel buttons offer a flexible rotation
of the button body, while maintaining a securely attached base to
the fabric. Swivel buttons are attached using a single tack aluminum
fastener.
- Nylon Collet buttons utilize a molded plastic
collet with a metal cap. They are attached with a threaded aluminum
fastener to create a lightweight, low-cost alternative to the metal
collet button. Reduced weight is an advantage for cost savings when
shipping large volumes of product over long distances.
- Nylon Inserted Metal Collet buttons incorporate
the strong look of a metal collet button with the tight weight and
attachment security of a nylon collet button. The combination allows
for maximum attachment strength with fashion design flexibility.
Note: All UFI buttons are available with personalized
logo designs and special finishes to enhance the visual appeal and technical
performance of each button.
Considerations when Choosing a Button
Basic considerations include: fabric, garment construction/design; button
placement/position; performance expectation; attachment strength versus
substrate application; garment processing; stone, bleach, enzyme, overdye,
washes and rinses.

Do not set attachment on seams |
Too Thick |
|
|
Correct: The fastener should be snug against
the garment and parallel with the fabric foundation and it's fastening
component |
Loose: The product is loose on the application
and can be easily pulled off the garment. This can be caused by
several conditions: machine set-up, incorrect application pressure,
compatibility of the fastener system with application. |
Uneven: The two halves of the fastener
component are not parallel to each other, making the attachment
weak and compromised. This is a result of inconsistent foundation
thickness, variations of the garment construction or the attaching
equipment. |
Seams: If the fastener is attached on
a stitched seam, it may cut the thread thus compromising the integrity
of the seam. |
Thick Applications: Excess foundation
thickness can cause weak attachments resulting in low pull off values.
Thin applications can also have the same affect. |
Always consult your UFI representative or contact
UFI's field technical service (FTC Dept.) for recommendations regarding
product applications and preferred equipment. |
